In Memory of Lizzie
We have lost another precious little angel; Lizzie has passed away. She passed away from cancer after fighting a brave battle that began after a mast cell tumor was removed in 2023. After her recovery her mom knew, she had always enjoyed visiting. Her mom shared her with many in need of her unconditional love. Lizzie retired in May of this year; now the cancer was terminal and had spread to her organs. It was no longer in remission. Lizzie leaves us a legacy for all to treasure.
Lizzie’s schedule kept her mom’s schedule booked as well. Even despite having a full-time job, achieving her master’s degree, marrying her best friend Tyler, and moving to a new home, her mom made sure Lizzie was where she was needed. From destressing students and staff at the UGA Health Sciences Campus in Athens, GA to many care centers and schools.
In September 2024 Lizzie and her mom went to the Apalachee High School near Winder, GA to help those grieving from the mass shooting at the school. She shared a story with us, a short bio of Lizzie. Afton said she was her soul-dog, which says it all.
Lizzie is a 6-year-old Golden Retriever/Labrador Retriever mix that serves the Athens, GA, and surrounding area communities. She is adored by many students/staff at UGA and goes to events throughout the semester to provide animal therapy to undergraduate students. Lizzie joined Paws for Friendship in August of 2017 and has thrived at every therapy visit since. Lizzie has a fur-brother named Rawlings whom she enjoys wrestling and tug-o-war daily. Her favorite treat is anything with cheese, her favorite activity is running around with her tennis ball, and her favorite place to be is right next to her momma!
Her parents are just heartbroken as you can understand. Please send your prayers, cards, and thoughts to them. They will find comfort in that; they really do make a difference to their loved ones left behind. Hug your babies much tighter, they just cannot stay long enough, they never could. We can protect them from everything but time. They always take part of us with them when they leave, and they will stay forever in our hearts.
Over the Rainbow Bridge is a beautiful and peaceful meadow where pets run and play free from pain. Their health is restored, those maimed are made whole and strong again. Just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. They wait for us there and we embrace with a love that will last forever, never to part again.
